  • Small Business Development Center:
    This organization can help with business plans, financing, and property questions. They’ve helped get numerous businesses started in the region, they know what they’re doing, and it’s free!

  • Shoreline, a Division of Goodwill Industries

    50% Paid Wages: The On-the-Job Training program offers partial subsidized employment, 50% of the training wages, with the goal of permanent unsubsidized employment. The purpose of this program is to subsidize the training period which may last up to 6 months. This program is funded by the Workforce Investment Board of Santa Cruz County and the County Board of Supervisors.

    100% Paid Wages: offers temporary subsidized employment. The individual is paid directly by Goodwill Industries 100% of the wages and payroll taxes. The employer provides supervision and training. Positions may last up to 6 months. This is a new program funded by the County of Santa Cruz Human Services Department and ARRA which provides Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) Emergency Contingency Fund (ECF).

  • Community Action Board Subsidized Employment Program:
    This program provides qualified and prepared candidates for your business at no obligation or cost. You choose who you want to hire. The program pays $8/hr in wages for a new employee for 5 months.

  • California Employment Development Department (EDD):
    Offers Employee Training Services and the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC), just to name a few.
  • Proposed Tax Credit for New Hires:
    The Obama Administration is proposing that all businesses who create a new position in 2010 receive a $5000 new hire federal tax credit.
  • Summer Youth Employment:
    Subsidized youth employment for a minimum of 120 hours.
